Advent Calendar Day 22

Welcome to Day 22 of the Whimsy Advent Calendar. I wish I'd made a really snowy card for inspiration for you today, but to be honest I think we've had enough snow on the ground here in the UK this week. I hope everyone is keeping warm and safe in these cold weather conditions.
As you may know, Whimsy Stamps is hosting a Whimsy December Advent Event, in which every day till Christmas, one Whimsy stamp will be given away by a member of the DT! Make sure to visit the Whimsy Stamps website daily to see some wonderful creations as well as for a chance to enter some stamp goodness.
It's my turn to host the prize today and I have a fabulous set of the holiday circle postmarks to give away to one of you lovely people that leave a comment on this post.

I've used the Christmas postmark on a couple of my cards recently and I'm sure if you scroll down my blog you will see it in action. This is a really useful set of holiday sentiments and well worth trying to win. But if you're not lucky and would like to purchase them you can do so here.
Today my card shows that even the normal Whimsy animal stamps can be dressed up for a Christmas card. These stamps are just so versatile! I chose the Whimsy Cat and Fish stamp and made the image a bit jokey by pretending that the fish was a Christmas present from 'mouse'. I must stress that no animals were harmed in the creation of this card. :)
For more inspiration with Whimsy please pop over to ANN'S BLOG because she also has something special to show you today.

Don't forget that Whimsy Stamps are looking for two guest designers for February and March 2010. If you'd like to apply you can do so here.
Please pop back tomorrow to see who has won the Holiday Circles Sentiments - and remember that all you need to do is leave me a comment on this post to be in with a chance.

Thanks for looking and Good Luck!

Recycled Christmas

This is one of the shortest posts I've ever done (I've not been feeling too well).
Today's card is for the challenge of
Recycling
that the lovely Shelley has set for the One Stop Craft Challenge.
I found some Christmas cards from a couple of years ago and made a topper from one of them. To add a bit of glitz to the topper I sprinkled some glamour dust onto the snowmen. This was a really quick and easy card to do.....I may have to recycle more! Thanks for looking,

Christmas Tilda

Okay, I've been naughty again! Today's card is not only my Colour Create DT card, but I'm also going to enter it into the Just Magnolia challenge. It seems an age since I coloured Tilda up and I really enjoyed making this card.
The Just Magnolia challenge theme is 'It's Christmas' and I wanted to turn Tilda with Rose into a Christmas card because I think she is versatile enough to take it.

The Colour Create Challenge is a gorgeous combination of PINK, BURGUNDY and IVORY and our optional extra is Roses. These have been picked by our mega talented Dena - thanks Dena, they were a joy to work with. Don't these colours suit Tilda so well! I hope this second photo shows the glittery glamour dust added to Tilda's dress (to turn it into her Christmas Party Dress) She has been coloured with Pro Markers and I distressed the edge with Tattered Rose distress ink.
The flowers and bling swirls are Prima. The patterned paper is Basic Grey 'Eva' and the pink paper has been run through the Cuttlebug 'Divine Swirls' embossing folder.
We're sponsored by Heidi at Simon Says Stamp! and she has given us a $25 credit voucher as a prize.
Photobucket
I hope you'll all find time to join in with the challenge over the Christmas holidays. Don't forget to take a peek at the fantastic creations that the design team have made with these colours.

Thanks for looking.

Whimsy Advent Calendar - Day 15

Oooooh! After today there are only another 9 days of the Whimsy Advent Calendar to go and then Christmas will be here. I hope everyone has posted all their cards and have the preparations well under way - well, I hope you've bought most of your presents anyway to avoid the last minute rush.

Today my Whimsy Advent Calendar inspiration is a get well card for a man. I've used the Rough Day Sentiments and the Whimsy Dog and Sign to make this card. The papers are Basic Grey and the buttons and fibres are ones I had lying around in my stash.
I roughed up the edges of the paper because I thought that fit in well with the sentiment. The papers have also been distressed around the edges using peeled paint distress ink. The sentiment was made up from two of the sentiments in the set - 'feel better' and 'rough day?'. I just masked out the words I didn't use before stamping the ones I did.

We have one of Whimsy's fantastic frog stamps as the prize today, so if you'd like to enter for the candy draw hop over to Vicki's blog (and good luck!)

I'll keep updating my sidebar for the the remainder of the advent calendar so you can either go to the Whimsy site or click on one of the links in my side bar to see the inspiration and enter the candy draws.
Thanks for looking,

Chrstmas Love in acetate

I've scheduled this post because I'm having a weekend away. How nice is that? You bet I'll be shopping till I drop during the days and eating good food till I'm stuffed in the evenings. Hopefully I'll be able to make a huge dint into the list of presents I need to buy.
Today's card is an acetate fronted card. As well as this being my DT card for One Stop Craft Challenge, where I picked the theme this week of Christmas love, I'll also be entering it into the Spoon Full of Sugar challenge (when I get home) where the theme is Monochrome.

When I picked the theme of 'Christmas Love' I had imagined making a sumptuous, plush, red and romantic Christmas card for my hubby. What happened? I have no idea - I just went mad with brown and cream instead.
The Penny Black image has been coloured with a mix of distress inks and promarkers. I added texture to the image with some Polar White Flowersoft and also sprinkled some glamour dust in with it to make the snow sparkle.
I created my own background again. This was a really quick and simple one, but I love how it turned out. I used distress inks in antique linen and brushed corduroy to randomly stamp the Love Fluff Large Hampton Art stamp and tea dye distress ink for the Stampendous Ornate Heart stamp. Then I used a little more antique linen to define the edge of the cream card and mounted it onto dark brown card.

The 'Xmas love' letters are a Hero Arts set called pattern alphabet that my friend Janiel sent me for my birthday - Thanks Janiel ((big wave)). These have been stamped in the same distress inks as the background.
Please take a look at the challenge blog for some inspiration from the rest of the One Stop DT and for details of this week's prize.

Two cards in non-traditional colours

I thought I would have a look around the challenges to see if any of the cards I've made this week will fit any of them. Oh my! There are a host of challenges that I could enter these two cards into; but I've picked just a few. These are two of my completely non traditional colour Christmas cards - one for the card makers (in pink), and one for people who like things a bit simpler.

So here we go.....
Creative Inspirations want to see Non-Traditional colours - both cards fit this challenge.

Papertake Weekly say 'Red and Green must not be seen' - both cards fit that too.

The Pink Elephant want to see your favourite Christmas Colour Combo - lilac/purple and blue is my favourite so the angel card fits that one

Kaboodle Doodles want to see Snowflakes - my pink card has snowflakes on it

Whimsy stamps are asking for Die Cuts - the snowflakes are a cuttlebug die

Okay, I could make these fit a few more challenges .... but I don't want to be too greedy :) and it's just really lovely to have time to enter some challenges for a change.

Thanks for looking,
Sharon

Advent Calendar Winner

I've been doing some serious crafting since the weekend - 78 Christmas cards later and the mojo is still a-flowin' (thank goodness). Although I think I did hit a peak yesterday and it is starting to waiver a little now. Come on mojo...just a little longer to go. :o)

Okay, I'd best announce the winner of yesterday's Whimsy advent calendar prize. Thank you to everyone that took part in it.

That means the winner of the Soccer Connor stamp is:

Advent Calendar - Day 8 giveaway

Welcome to Day 8 of the Whimsy Advent Calendar.

How are you liking the calendar inspiration from the DT so far? Brilliant, isn't it.

Are you ready for a prize?

Today it is my turn to host the prize and I have a lovely Soccor Conner stamp to give away. This stamp is one of the handiest I have in my stamp collection for making boys cards. It's one of those stamps that you'll always be reaching for.

Okay, to win this stamp, just leave a comment on this post and tomorrow I will pick one lucky person at random to be the winner.

Here's my inspiration for you today. A little Christmas card using the Whimsy Penguin and Seal stamp.

This card has another home made background of smudged ink, I stamped some holly swirls from an Inkadinkado Christmas Border set around the edge, embossed it with the Cuttlebug swiss dots folder and stickled all the dots. The image is coloured with promarkers and some glamour dust has been added to the ice puddle. The sentiment is one of the Whimsy Holiday Circles postmarks. Then I simply matted the two pieces of paper onto some blue paper, added a ribbon and the card was made. A really easy card to make.

Don't forget that Whimsy also have a holiday card contest which is still open until 12 Dec - just click on the link on my sidebar and it'll take you to the details.

Thanks for looking and Good Luck!

Explode a card!

What a fantastic weekend this is! Why is it different from any other? Well, I have the week off from work next week - oooooh! bliss! I have lots of things planned. One of the highlights is going to see the show 'Here Comes The Girls!' Oh yes....just a little bit of Lulu, Chaka Khan and Anastasia (You bet I'll be singing my heart out! - at top volume! Everyone else should bring ear plugs, lol)

Anyway, before that I have to show you today's card. This is a DT card for the One Stop Craft Challenge, but I am also entering it into the Crafty Calendar Club challenge and the Stamp Something challenge
Okay, for the One Stop Craft Challenge, Maggie has set us the theme of 'fancy folds' - thank you so much Maggie - I love doing that. Fancy folding is a favourite of mine and today, just for a change, I've created an 'Explosion Card' which explodes when you open it.
For the Crafty Calendar Club - the theme is Winter Sparkle - yep, think I've covered that too with my glittery embossing
and for Stamp Something, they want to see Glitzy somethings. Well, we have glittery embossing and the holographic accented border I've applied too.

Right, for the One Stop Craft Challenge of a fancy fold - my explosion......this is something I saw on Create and Craft TV a while back. I am so glad that I quickly followed the instructions on the demo and saved it for a 'rainy day' (boy! are we having some of those in the UK at the moment!)

When the card is not opened, the folded paper looks like this:

and then when you open it up.........

it explodes outwards!
What a fab interior to a card! This is one of those cards that, once people have received one, gets requested again and again.
I'm not sure if people are interested in these....but if you are, just let me know by leaving a comment and if it is something that you'd all like to try I'll put some instructions together.
Thanks for looking,

Lilac and Aqua Thanks

Okay, I'm starting to panic...it's already December and I haven't bought a single Christmas present yet. Why is it that I seem to get more disorganised every year? Mind you, the turkey is already on order, so we won't go hungry.
Today, I'm giving Christmas a miss - well, as far as the card making goes. For my Colour Create DT card this week I've made another 'Thank You' card for those wonderful nurses.
Our fabulous Deanne picked the colours of Lilac or Purple with Aqua, Black and White for the challenge (oooh! I love lilac and aqua together) and she gave us this picture for inspiration.
There's no optional extra this week so everyone is free to do what they want to and use anything they like. We have a couple of lovely stamps as the prize for this challenge that have been donated by:
Thanks Michelle!
I wanted to use something unique on my card again - so, you guessed it - I made a masterboard and used it as the background.
First I stamped the Hampton Art Love Fluff Large heart stamp in clear ink onto white card and heat embossed it with Stampendous Stamp'n Stuff Kaleidoscope embossing powder (it really twinkles). Then I smudged Adirondack Lights ink in Aqua and Ink It Up! Lavender ink all over the card and sprayed with a water mister. Once dry, I stamped the Debbi Moore Heart Swirl stamp in the Aqua and Lavender ink and finally stamped a few tiny hearts from the Basic Grey Love Swirl in black Stayzon.

The other stamps used are Penny Black Kindness sentiment, Woodware 'Must Have' Retro Words and the large central heart is an Anita's one.

You should see the amazing creations made by the rest of the DT - I love the way we all use slightly different shades and styles and we have everything from bold and bright to soft and subtle.
I hope you'll find time to join in again this week - and thanks to everyone for joining in the last challenge too.

Thanks for looking,
Sharon xx

Whimsy Advent Calendar and Creative Card Crew

I have a couple of announcements today.
Firstly, I am saying a sad farewell to Creative Card Crew. I have had a wonderful time helping to run the challenge and working with the really talented ladies on the design team. However, I've struggled so much to catch up with things this year that I've decided to take a bit of a break. I will really miss making my items for the challenge but it is going so strong at the moment that I know the girls will continue taking it to new heights. Thanks for all your support over the past months ladies - it was an absolute pleasure working with you all. And I wish you every success for the future.

My item today is for the fabulous Nicola's challenge at Creative Card Crew and the theme she picked is
Christmas
I made a little lumineria using one of the stamps that is being offered as a prize.

For the second announcement.....
This is a double DT item because today I am helping to kick off the Whimsy Advent Calendar event.

Every day up to Christmas the Whimsy DT will be posting cards and projects for the Advent Calendar and there will be a prize given away each day.

Today it is not my turn to host the prize, but please hop over to the Whimsy site to see details of the event and a link to where the prize is.
So today you have a double chance to win a Whimsy stamp!
Two (of my favourite) stamps are the prize on Creative Card Crew and,
another stamp is the prize on the Whimsy Advent Calendar.

Good luck everyone.

A Penguin and a sketch

I can't believe that this weekend has finally arrived! Our little grandson Oscar will be baptised tomorrow. Bless his little cotton socks. It's been six months since he made his far too early appearance into the world and he's grown from the teeny, tiny 1lb 4oz he was then, to being over 9lbs now. What a little fighter this boy is! I promise to have pictures of him on here in the coming week.
Anyway, it is Saturday so that means it is time for the One Stop Craft Challenge. Our lovely Nikki has given us a sketch this week (seems so long since we had one of those!) and it was fantastic to work with. Here's my card: Isn't the penguin cute? He's one of the stamps I won from Kimmi for sending my card to Jaimie (the 'spread the love' button is still in my sidebar if you'd like to send a card to her too). He's such a lovely stamp to colour up!

We've been getting a fantastic response to the One Stop challenges recently (thank you!) and I am so sorry for having so much on that I've been a bad blogger recently. I will be doing my utmost to comment on all the entries this week. I do hope you'll find time to join us.

Mina's candy

Make sure you hot foot it over to Mina's blog. She has some fabulous candy on offer to celebrate her first blogoversary. Congratulations on one year of blogging Mina - you've really treated us all to loads of eye candy in that time! Here's to the next year of blogging.
Mina has some lovely Magnolia stamps, papers, flowers, buttons, ribbons....oh go on, go see all the gorgeousness for yourself!

Dear Santa.......

........I have been very good this year. Isn't that what every little boy and girl are thinking and saying at this time of year? My DT item for Creative Card Crew this week helps them to get the message across to Santa. Paula has picked a lovely easy theme for you all to join in with this week:
My favourite things
....so there's no excuse not to join us! :o)
We're sponsored by digital delights this week and I've used one of their gorgeous images on my card called Ridley Stocking

So it starts off as a normal card inside and out........

But when you open up the inside there is a Christmas list for the kiddies to fill out and then send the card on to Santa at the North Pole. I should have made an envelope which was addressed to Santa - but I ran out of time.

Just a little bit different (that's my favourite thing - doing something different, but I rarely have the time to indulge this side at the moment)
The other little item I made just would not photograph at all. So I'm really sorry for the quality of this but it's the best picture of the Xmas bauble that I could get.

Do hop over to the challenge to see what the rest of the fab DTs favourite things are - there are some gorgeous creations on there today.

A snowflake kiss

Good morning. Today my card is for a snowflake challenge and rather than using snowflake punches I've used a masterboard with snowflakes on it. I'll show you how it was created a little further down this post.
The lovely Paula set the theme of Snowflakes at the One Stop Craft Challenge this week but unfortunately she has been really poorly for over a week now and she's been unable to do a card for her own challenge. I hope you get better soon hunny.
Here is the card I made.

I think the expression on that Whimsy deer's face is priceless! I bet there are loads of you that remember trying to catch snowflakes on your tongue when you were little! Just like the deer. I just had to team the image up with the lovely sentiment (again, this was gifted to me by Paula).

Rightie-ho, I'd best try to explain how I made the masterboard. This is the equipment I used and a picture of it before it was put onto the card.I took a piece of plain white A4 card and randomly smudged ink on it using the 3 colours shown. Then I randomly stamped the two stamps all over the card using stayzon and finally spritz the card with some glimmer mist for a delicate sheen. Simples!
This is such an easy technique to do and you always end up with something unique to use as a backing on your projects. You should have a try at it.
I left the card really simple so that the backing wouldn't be too covered up. The only embellishment is s snowflake brad and some netting tied in a bow.
If you join in the snowflake challenge this week, you have the change of winning £10 worth of ink - that'd be great for you to try out your own masterboard. Do take a look at the beautiful items created by the rest of the DT.

Hope you find time to join us.

Thanks for looking.

Candy Canes and Snowmen

Sugar Rush ALERT!!!!

Yes, it's Colour Create day and my word, that wonderful Mina has picked the sweetest (sorry about the pun) picture she could find as inspiration for this week's challenge. And boy, does it put me in the mood to start singing Christmas songs. Here's the fab picture she chose:

Mmmmmm! I could just eat one of those now.

Our colours this week are GREEN, RED and WHITE with the optional extra of CHRISTMAS.

Please take a look at the incredible variety of inspirational pieces that the talented DT have made this week. There is something for everyone over at the challenge blog.

I'm going to be naughty again (that's twice in one week!) and enter this card into a challenge.

Over at Saturday Spotlight they want to see projects that use the masterboard technique. (Did I mention I made the top three over there last week? Woo Hoo!!!!) This card has got a very simple masterboard as it's background. I have made another really pretty masterboard this week but I don't think I'll get time to turn it into a card for that challenge before Saturday. That's why I'm entering this one.

The background was made by stamping a Papermania poinsettia stamp in red ink and a Hobby Art Ltd Snowflake Cluster stamp in green ink. I've also used marshmallow glimmer mist on this for a delicate shimmer in electric light, but it doesn't show up too well in daylight. I didn't want something that was too overpowering because the snowman is covered in glamour dust.

The main image is from my new Whimsy Christmas set. Isn't the snowman cute!! I was tempted to make the little bird into a bluebird but thought a robin was more fitting for the Christmas theme. They are coloured using ProMarkers. The sentiment stamp is a woodware one.

The sentiment on the inside was stamped up and gifted to me by my friend Paula. Thanks Hunny. This picture also shows more of the masterboard.

We're sponsored by Heidi at Simon Says Stamp! this week and she's given us a $25 credit voucher for one lucky winner.

I hope you'll find time to join in with us.

Christmas Kitten

Hi everyone. Here's a really, really short post tonight. This is a card I made with the wonderful sketch over at Friday Sketchers challenge this week.

I decided to crack into the old Christmas papers I bought last year that I hardly used at all, and team them up with my new Whimsy image. The box and bow on the image has been paper pieced and the little kitten has been coloured with promarkers. I love this image because it is so cute and versatile.

Hope everyone is having a good week.

Strings Attached!

Oh my goodness! Has a week really gone by since I last posted on this blog? Yes, it certainly has. Well, I have been incredibly busy since my last post, churning out loads of Christmas cards and that has made me a bad blogger! I will fix that this week - well, there are a few DT projects to post.

Here's my DT project for Creative Card Crew which has the theme of 'Strings Attached' chosen by the lovely Linda C. The challenge is to use some string. fibre, twine, embroidery floss etc on your projects.

Ooooh! I feel really naughty because I'm going to enter this card into a couple of challenges:

Basic Grey Challenge - Glitz and bling . I've used glamour dust, glitter card and disco black embossing powder for the glitz and black prima bling gems. The papers are Basic Grey Porcelain.

Cute Card Thursday - Glitter me silly - I've used glitter card snowflakes and stars, together with the glamour dust and disco black embossing powder (which really twinkles).
I used this black ribbon fibre 'stuff' (my crafty technical term for something I'm not sure the name of) that you can see in this close up. I send a thank you to my friend Janiel for gifting this image to me...isn't it a gorgeous image? I so want to get this one for myself now that I've coloured it up.
The sad news is that we lose the fab Donna from the CCC design team today. She wants to keep working as a Stampin' Up demonstrator so she is giving up all her DT places. We are heartbroken to see her go. She's such a wonderful lady, a great inspiration and a fantastic friend that will be sorely missed on the DT. Best of luck for the future Donna.

The challenge today is sponsored by Heidi from Simon Says Stamp! There is a fab $20 credit voucher to be won by one lucky person, so I hope you'll all enter. Don't forget to take a look at the other inspiration on the challenge blog from the other DT members.

On the Seventh Day of Christmas.......

On the seventh day of Christmas
my true love sent to me:
Seven Swans a Swimming
Six Geese a Laying
Five Golden Rings
Four Calling Birds
Three French Hens
Two Turtle Doves
and a Partridge in a Pear Tree

Well I guess you know that if you've arrived here from Debbie's blog that you are in the right place - the song kind of gives it away, doesn't it?

If you've landed on my blog from anywhere else and want to follow the Twelve Days Of Christmas

and all the scrummy new stamps from the fabulous new Whimsy Stamps designer

then please start here at the lovely Bev Rochester's blog.

I was so pleased to be given this fantastic Santa stamp to show you. He's so jolly! I decided to make my card all white to really show him off. And I give a big thanks to Chris for inspiring the background to this card. Thank's hunny. She had done one of these on a card recently and I'd been dying to try it out. It's simply a piece of card that I embossed with a diamond pattern using my scoreboard and dotted with stickles where the lines crossed.

Aren't these new stamps just the cutest? Chrissy is a really talented artist and I'm positive we'll be seeing a lot more of her stamps in the future.

Now, for those following the song and leaving comments along the way there will be the chance of some lovely candy to be won at the end. This hop is open until Friday 13th November at 12 noon ET. Your next stop is Simmonne

Doodles

Good morning everyone. It's a busy day here on this blog. Here's the first post of the day with two cards.....but there will be another post and card coming along later in the day. I've just realised that I haven't told people about the fabulous new artist that has joined Whimsy - well, please pop back later to see one of the new images here.

Right, onto this post. Today at Creative Card Crew the theme has been chosen by our fabulously talented Donna. She picked Doodles.

My first card has some simple doodling around the edge of the image and the papers. The papers are from the bearly mine vol 3 CD and I added gold ribbon to make it look like a present. The image is Whiff of Joy and the big brad is a Dovecraft one.

The second card was inspired by the masterboard technique in this month's craft stamper. The coloured panel is a section of the masterboard I created (applying ink to white card and stamping randomly on top of it). I added a bit of stickles to parts of the masterboard piece, tied a ribbon round it and hung some baubles from the ribbon that I'd cut out from gold mirror card. I doodled on the baubles with diamond stickles.
The white snowflake trails and the dots across the bottom by the sentiment are doodled with an inkessentials pen.

Bunny Zoe is sponsoring the challenge today and she's given us this beautiful Wags 'n Whiskers image - Sweet Danni and Bella

Please take a look at the fantastic doodling projects from the rest of the talented DT over at the challenge blog.
