Have A Sweet Christmas

I'm off on a bling-tastic, glittery, shiny and rebelling against traditional Christmas colours and images today. Oh er! Hope I'm not offending anyone. Don't get me wrong, I love the traditional stuff but I do like to push the boundaries every now and again. I'm glad I pushed them with this creation because I really like it.

This is my DT card for the Pixie Cottage Challenge where there is a fab sketch and/or the theme of sparkle and shine. I have used both, once again and really gone to town on the sparkle and shine (as well as gems there's lots of glitter too! You'll see that in the photo at the bottom.) I'm entering this into:

The images I used are:

I know everyone is really busy at this time of year, but I hope that you'll find the time to join in with our challenge this week. Please take a look at the wonderful creations that the amazing DT have made.

One for the Men

Finally! A Christmas card that is suitable for the men in our lives. I have got so stuck in pretty, sparkly and cute that I was beginning to despair that I would ever make a male card this year.

Thank you so much to some challenges for giving me the inspiration that I needed to create this.

I was saving this card to post on here tomorrow but I've just realised that if I do, I'll miss a couple of the challenges that I made it for. So I'm posting it now. I'm entering this into (in alphabetical order):

A Crafty Little Place - Anything Goes
Cards For Men - Christmas
Crafty Ann's - Sketch and/or Christmas (I just did Christmas)
For Fun Challenges - Make a card that is not square or A2
One Stitch At A Time - Old Stash New Stash (Old is the bearly mine CD that I printed the stripy paper from and the Dovecraft Tag Templates that made the oval tag. New are the stamps - a combination of Waltzing Mouse, Stempleglede and Paula Pascale)
Polka Doodles - All About the sentiment
Stamp and Create - 'Tis the Season
Stamp Something - Christmas Colour Combo
The Crafty Pad - Anything Goes
Wild Orchid - An Old Fashioned Christmas

This type of card is just perfect for layering up. The photo above shows the layers that it has been possible to create on this card.

Love you a Latte!

I had my lovely grandchildren staying with me last night and they didn't sleep very well at all. This is so unusual for them as we normally don't hear a peep out of them all night long. However, Oscar was making a lot of noise rolling around his travel cot and spent most of the night sat upright, standing up or crying (for no apparent reason), and Amelia got upset every time I tried to get back to my own room and bed. Needless to say, I spent all night in their room and I am now totally exhausted! Think it might be back to bed for me for a snooze this afternoon. ;o)

Anyway, I could really do with one of these at the moment!

The theme at the One Stop Craft Challenge is 'Latte' so we're looking for tea and coffee related makes this week.

I've used the brand new stamp by Faith Skrdla called Love you a Latte. This was so easy to colour in; I can see I'll be using this one again and again.

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

Basic Grey Challenge - Recipe -3 patterned papers, 4 types of embellishment, 1-2 images or sentiments

Papers are from Basic Grey basics manilla and granola pads.

I've used Buttons, a Bow, Bling gems and Square Brads for the embellishments.

2 images of a cup of latte.

Moving Along With The Times - For Someone Special

PaperPlay Challenge - Monochrome

Stampin' for the weekend - Recipe (2 circles, 2 Squares plus buttons and bling)

Theme Thursday - Fun Images

Top Tip Tuesday - Anything Goes

Please take a look at the lovely warming coffee and tea makes that the rest of the fabulous DT have made.

A card, A gift and a stamp launch!

Woo Hoo! We're launching a new Pixie Cottage image on the Colour Create Challenge today! Yes, the fabulous Michelle has given us 2 prizes of brand new stamps, one of which has not been seen on any other blog before. And I got the chance to make a card with it! (Do you think I'm tickled pink? You bet I am)

Anyway, I have 2 makes for you today using the challenge colours and themes from Colour Create. The colours this week are:

Grey, Green and White

The optional extra is to use silver or acetate.

This first card uses the brand new image called Hannah's Stocking by Sandra Hammer (which will be available to purchase sometime soon at Michelle's Scrapbooking and More - just keep a look out for it).
This is such a fantastic Christmas image because it just sums up the excitement that every little child has on Christmas Eve. I have put acetate in the window and there is a silver Father Christmas charm and silver glittered snowflakes & stars on this card.

My second make is a little easel card but it also is a gift because it has quite a deep drawer in it that I can use to put some papering body lotions in, or some make-up, or maybe ever some yummy chocolates.
This one uses the lovely Marianne image from Stempleglede. I've used the silver option on this one, with the silver mirror board punched out with the Martha Stewart punch, a silver chain for the drawer handle, and silver metal surrounding the green pearl brads.

I'm entering these into the following challenges

ABC Christmas - Y is for Yuletide
A Crafty Little Place - Anything Goes
Creative Stamp Friends - Package (the easel drawer package)
Oh La La Challenge - Christmas Song ("So here it is, Merry Christmas" - the first line is " Are you hanging up your stockings on the wall")
Paper Cutz - Anything Goes
Stamp With Fun - Advent
StampsRUs - Holiday Cards
Totally Stampalicious - Anything Goes
Top Tip Tuesday - Anything Goes

Please take a look at the amazing cards and gifts that the rest of the DT have made.
Oh and before I go - Mina is celebrating her 2nd blogoversary - do pop over to see her for the chance to win some of her wonderful mega candy - there are several prizes to be won.

Christmas Candles

Well it was a cold and chilly day and we even had snow here in the south of the UK yesterday. It didn't lay where I am, but it did look pretty watching the snowflakes out of the window at work. I wonder if it'll snow today too; snow makes me really feel Christmassy.

I have a christmassy card to share today. This is my Pixie Cottage DT card where there is a sketch and/or the theme of Paper Piecing to follow (I did both). It uses the new stamp called Hannah with Candle and I think this is such a lovely image. The papers I've used are DCWV The Linen Closet.I'm entering this into the following challenges:
Fairy Fun Fridays - Buttons and Bows
Fussy and Fancy - Christmas without red and green
Paper Cutz - Anything Goes
Speedy The Cats Challenge - Bows
Stampin' B's - Make a holiday card
StampsRUs - Holiday Cards
Sweet Stampin' - Buttons and Bows
The Character Cafe - Use a Natural or Neutral colour and some glitter

Here's Edwin

Here we are at the start of another week, and once again I have a card to show. This is becoming a habit! lol. Again this card was made just for the fun of it. I thought it was about time I made a card for a boy......but I just can't put my bottles of stickles down, so this had better be a card for a very little boy who won't even realise it has glitter on it.

I'm entering this into:

Just Magnolia - the sketch that I used
Paperplay - Stars
A Spoonfull of Sugar - Anything Goes
Kaboodle Doodles - A Recipe. 1 plain paper, 2 patterned papers (the dark blue is a patterned paper - if you look in close up you can see the spots on it) and 3 embellishments (Stars, Brads and string)

I did some masking with an Edwin stamp and the stump and bench stamp from the Pixie Cottage. Edwin is sitting on a bench beside the tree stump. I love mixing my stamps up like this. The papers are from the DCWV paper pad The Linen Closet. The image has been coloured with distress inks.

Okay, here's wishing everyone a fantastic week. I'll be back on Wednesday with my Pixie Cottage card.

Until then, thanks for looking,
Sharon xx

Let It Snow!

Today I have something a bit different that is really easy to do but it makes a fab gift too. It's a snow globe and the kids love these. I found the globe in my local Hobbycraft store and all it needed was an image colouring up and putting inside it. Simple!

I'm entering the snow globe into the following challenges:
Die Cut Dreams Challenge - Anything but a card (I'm only entering the snow globe ladies)
Winter Wonderland - A Decoration
Our Creative Corner - Create A Holiday 3d Project
Secret Crafter - Handmade Christmas Gifts

There are more challenges linked up below!

As this is part of my Pixie Cottage Challenge DT item, I made a card to go with it that follows this week's sketch and the theme of Let It Snow!

A Birthday Carousel Horse

This makes a change! A post on a Monday...whatever next? I thought I'd post this card that I've made for my grandchildren's step sister. It's her birthday this coming Saturday and I remembered that she'd told me that she loves the carousel horses that I used to make cards with when I was on the Whimsy Stamps DT. So I dusted off this birthday carousel horse for her. Of course, like any little girl, her favourite colour is PINK, so the card had to be in that colour!

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

Sketch & Stash - the sketch and the newest stash is the chipboard shapes that came free with a magazine.

One Stitch At A Time - choose a season or event. I chose a birthday event.

Treehouse Stamps - Use Glitter. See the close up for more detail, plus glitter added around the edges of everything.

Wee Memories - Use a bit of pink (or a lot....guess which one I've gone for!)

Paper Romance - Use some of your favourite things. I love glittery stickles, colouring with distress inks, and I must admit to having a soft spot for these carousel horses too.

Colour Create, Pixie Cottage and OSCC

Well, I'm still alive! It's been a bit of a rubbish week and rather a drastic way to lose over 8lbs in weight, but I am coming through this last lot of illness. It seems like I haven't been well since I got back from my holiday. Hmmm....maybe holidays are bad for your health? lol.

Anyway, I've been too ill to do much on the Internet, so I'm posting all of my cards today. Sadly I've missed some of the challenges that they were made for, but I'm still entering them into a few and the links are all the way through this post.

First up, here's my Colour Create cards. I went a bit crazy with the wonderful colours Janiel picked for us (Robin egg blue, sea foam green and cream. The optional extra is winter). I made one cutsie cards and 5 quick and easy cards.

I'm entering this first card into:
Wild Orchid Crafts - Blue Christmas
Paper Cutz Challenge - Christmas lots of bling
Frosted Designs - Distressing
Paperplay challenges - Let it snow, Let it snow, Let it snow
Stampin' B's - Use snowflakes on your card
ABC Christmas - X is for Christmas
Polycraft Monday - A Glittery Christmas
Oldie but a Goodie - Glitter

I'm entering these into:
Die Cut Dreams - Christmas Anything Goes
Stampin' for the weekend - Winter

These last 3 are being entered into

Scrappy Frogs - Merry Christmas

I think the quick and easy cards got a little closer to the challenge colours and I had the chance to use my new Stempleglede and Paula Pascale stamps on a couple of them.

Next up is my Pixie Cottage card where the theme is ribbons and bows and there is also a sketch to follow. I've used the stamp by Artish called Forever and Ever . For this card I wanted to create a lot of height and depth so it uses many different thicknesses of foam pads on the different levels.

I'm entering this into:

Stampin' Royalty - Patterned Paper

And finally here is my OSCC card where it was my choice of theme and I picked 'Snow People'. Hopefully that'll help us all to get another Christmas card made this year. The image I've used on this card is from Robyn's Fetish digital stamps and it is called Frosty Da Snowman. I've used both polar white flowersoft and stardust stickles on him to add a bit of texture.

I'm entering this into:

Fussy and Fancy - Christmas with no red or green

C.R.A.F.T - Using Vellum (the embossed snowflakes are on vellum)

Tutorial Time - Xmas Tree Pop-up

I've posted a tutorial on the Pixie Cottage blog showing you how to make the quickest and easiest pop-up to use inside your Christmas cards. UPDATE: The tutorial is shown at the bottom of this post now. Once you've made one of these inserts it'll only take you 5 minutes to make the next one - that's how simple they are.

Here's the outside of the card I made: and here is the inside complete with the Christmas tree pop-up.
I hope you'll try these out. The instructions can be found by clicking HERE.

Thanks for looking,
Sharon xx

Here's a quick and easy way to add a pop-up into your Christmas cards that will delight children. It only takes around 5 minutes to make.

You will need: 1 sheet of A4 Card, a score tool, scissors, pencil, a large scallop circle nestabilities die.

Step 1. Score and fold the A4 card in half.

Step 2. Place the nestability on the folded edge with the fold running up the middle of the nestability, and approx 2cm up from the bottom edge. Draw around 4 scallops in pencil.
Step 3. Move the nestability up and draw around 3 scallops. Repeat this step 2 more times reducing the number of scallops drawn round each time.

Step 4. You should have something that looks like this.

Step 5. With the paper still folded in half, cut the scallop lines that you drew.

Step 6. Open the card up and score lines as shown below. Note that the edge of one part of the tree is scored up to the centre of the outside scallop on the tier above.

Step 7. Fold the score lines so that when you turn the card over, the tree pops out and none of your drawing lines can be seen.

Step 8. Cut the sheet down so that it will fit into the centre of your card, and decorate as you wish.

Here is the finished card I made using the Pixie Cottage stamp Hannah's Letter by Sandra

And this is the inside. The tree has been coloured with Promarkers and decorated with the new gold and silver flowersoft.

I hope you have lots of fun making these inserts for your cards this year.

A taste of summer

We've had such rotten weather here recently that I thought I cheer myself up by making a really pretty card that has nothing to do with Halloween, fall, winter or Christmas. I've even made a pretty box-velope to go with it.

This is my Pixie Cottage Challenge DT card where the themes this week are a sketch and/or use 2 colours.

I love this new hummingbird stamp by ArTish and even though I've used unusual colours for a hummingbird I tried to capture the iridescent nature of a hummingbird's feathers by adding kaleidoscope embossing powder on the bird after it was coloured. The picture below captures some of the sparkle and shows the difference between the stickles and the subtler sheen of the kaleidoscope embossing powder.

I'm entering this into the following challenges:
Ai Factory - Garden Party (something you'd see in a garden)
S2G TT - giving Thanks
Pixie Dust Studio - Pretty Colours, Pink Blue and Lime Green (couldn't quite get the lime green but you do get a flash in the iridescent embossing)
Crazy 4 Challenges - Make a Square Card
Our Creative Corner - An Air of Gratitude
Sweet Stampin - Photo Inspiration (inspired by the sugary sweet colours)
Top Tip Tuesday - Use an image/sentiment
Drunken Stampers - Punch Me! (MS punch made a border)

This photo shows that I did actually stick to the two colour theme when the light is not catching the sheen on the bird.

I even made my own template for a box-velope (is that what you call them?) and I carried on the theme of my home made background and the floral stamps that I used on the card.

You can purchase the Hummingbird image by clicking HERE. It's image C. I can see this is going to be quite a versatile image to use, for Thank you, Get Well and Birthday cards and it looks so pretty when it is coloured up.

I also used distress inks in Tumbled Glass and Spun Sugar for the background, Stardust Stickles, kaleidoscope embossing powder and a Martha Stewart Punch. The flowers were in my stash so I can't be positive but I think they are Prima.

Please take a look at what the rest of the talented Pixie DT have created this week. There is such a lovely selection of different styles this week.

Announcing My Candy Winner and 2 cards

Today is the day that I announce the winner of my blog candy. I also have a couple of cards to share with you so please scroll down a little further to see those. The cards are also entered into some challenges which are linked up below too.

Thank you to everyone that joined in the OSCC blog hop and to those of you that entered my candy draw. I'd best announce the winner without further ado.

That's you Doreen! Congratulations!
Please contact me at the e mail address on my profile and I'll sort out sending the goodies out to you.

Now onto my cards for today. The challenge this week at the One Stop Craft Challenge is to use embossing (any type of embossing you like). So I made a couple of quick cards. The first one has the tree embossed in disco black embossing powder. The tree is from the Papermania Joyeux Noel set and it is a set that I love using at Christmas.

This second card has both dry and heat embossing on it. All the stamps used on this card come from Waltzing Mouse.

I'm entering these cards into the following challenges:

Cards for men - Anything goes as long as it's male
(the top card makes a great male Christmas card)
C.R.A.F.T. - Dry Embossing
(the second card)

Polka Doodles - Quick and Easy Christmas Card
(both cards were really quick and easy to make)

Winter Wonderland - Sing a Christmas Carol
( Card 1 "O Tannenbaum", Card 2 has the words on it! - not quite a carol but a Christmas song nonetheless)
Kreative Stempelfreunde - Favourite Stamps
(Card 1 - my favourite Christmas tree stamp, Card 2 My favourite 'new' stamps)

Really Reasonable Ribbons - Winter themed - blue, silver, white
(The second card - the silver is on the edges of the labels and mat)

Dutch Dare - Clean and Simple
(Card 2)

Drunken Stampers - Before Copics
(Both cards)

Speedy The Cat - A Holiday Card
(Both cards)

365 Cards - Day 248 Ad Inspired
(Card 1)

Don't forget to take a look at what the OSCC design team have come up with this week - and to see if you are one of the winners of the blog hop.

Gold and Glitter

A big card today....well, big for me. This is an 8 x 8 card and I don't normally make that size but I needed a card that was larger than my usual ones. This is my DT card for the Colour Create Challenge, and do you know what? I think my favourite colours have just changed. I adore these colours together and have to than Di for choosing them.

The colours this time are BLACK, MINT GREEN, GOLD and CREAM with the optional extra of SPARKLES or FIREWORKS. Believe me, there is a little bit of black on this card, but not a lot of it. I didn't have any firework stamps or paper so I went with the sparkles theme and tried to get the impression of fireworks with my swirly stamp on the background I made. I hope the picture below shows some of the sparkly bits on this card.

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

Sketch Saturday - the fab sketch used
ABC Challenge - G is for Glitter
For Fun Challenges - Use metal (metal eyelets and all the 'gold')
Crafty Cardmakers - Stitching (Faux stitching with ultrafine glitter)
Lexi's Creations - Anything Goes

The Colour Create Challenge is sponsored today by Michelle's Scrapbooking and More. We have a fabulous brand new Tilda stamp as the prize this week, and Michelle is taking pre-orders for the new stamps at the moment.

Items Used
Magnolia Princess Tilda stamp
Anna Griffin stamps
Papertrey Ink Sentiment
Versacolour Ink - Mint
Gold Tinsel embossing powder
Gold Ultrafine glitter
Stardust Stickles
Cream Linen base card, Satin Gold card, Black card
McGill Pine Branch punch
Roses, Lace, eyelets and trimmings from my stash

If you go to the challenge blog you'll see the wonderful creations made by the design team. It really is worth the trip!
