Whispering Sweet Nothings

It's time to paper piece! I haven't done this in such a long time that I'd forgotten how much fun it is. It certainly gives your images a completely new look. Today's Pixie Cottage challenge is a sketch and/or paper piecing. The sketch is so much fun to work with too.

I'm entering this into the following challenges:

Other Lovelies - Flowers
Quirky Crafts - Ribbon

As you can see I used lots of flowers: this is the inside which also has them added.
The image is a Di Carubia stamp "Whispering Maisy and Matt" and I've paper pieced their clothes.
Please take a look at the fantastic paper piecing that the rest of the talented Pixie team have done for this week's challenge. I hope you'll all find time to join us in this challenge.

Rising Flame

Hope you're all enjoying the gorgeous summer weather. Well, so much for colouring images in the garden today.... I ended up doing some embroidery on a card instead. Yep, those Sweet Pea Stampers really got me going with a challenge that I was far too weak to resist. I thought I'd try to make this fit a few challenges so I'm entering it into:

Sweet Pea Stampers - Stitching faux or real
Crafts and Me - Birthdays
Oh La La Challenge - Flourishes and Pearls
One Stitch At A Time - 2 of anything (2 stamped spotty borders)
The Creative Cottage - Pearls and Swirls
Paperplay Challenge - It's Sunny Here

I'm really pleased with the way I coloured this image; the background kind of makes the mermaid 'pop'. All of the colouring has been done with Distress Ink. I had to get out my favourite Marianne Designs template for the stitching because I adore the swirls. There's masses of glitzy stickles on this card too.

I thought I'd mention that Sweet Pea Stampers have some blog candy running at the moment for their followers. You can read about it here.

Pink and Brown

Yay!!! It's the weekend again .... and the sun is shining (what a bonus!) And I have the whole day all to myself. Bliss! Think I might just take some stamped images out into the garden and do a bit of colouring today. I won't feel guilty because I finished all of my washing last night and the house is pretty tidy.

Today's card is not a card. The fabulously talented Francesca set the challenge at One Stop Craft Challenge today and she picked a colour theme of pink and brown. Love it! So I decided to do a little bag with this gorgeous LOTV image. She's so lovely to colour in.

I'm entering this into the Pollycraft Challenge - No cards, use glitter and/or lace (the pink daisy trim is lace) Please take a look at all the fab creations by the rest of the talented design team.

Oh! I almost forgot! THANK YOU to One Stitch at a Time challenge for picking my card in the top three. Such an honour ladies!

Inside Out

Time for another Pixie Cottage Challenge and hopefully the tutorial I did for them on Saturday may come in handy if some of you want to give it a try. We're joined today by Jay Jay and she's given us a great sketch and theme to work with. The theme she's picked in 'Inside Out'.

I'm entering my card into the following challenges:
Sir Stampalot - Punch It

Crazy 4 Challenges - Paper Flowers

I think I must be a little hooked on this 'Bunny With Roses' stamp that Di Carubia created for the Pixie Cottage. He's just so sweet!

To make my flowers fit in with the blue and yellow theme, I took plain white prima flowers, coloured them with a mustard Promarker first, and when that had dried, I just touched the edges with an indigo Promarker.

I've used the exploding insert on this card too but, to make it look a little different, I used my Martha Stewart punch around the page on the edges. This also matches the panels on the ront of the card. I punched the flowers and added them to smaller punched panels on the inside.

There's oodles on 'inside inspiration' on the challenge blog from my fellow teamies, so please pop over and take a look. I hope we inspire you to enter the challenge too.

Tutorial Time - Exploding Insert

I hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend. My card today is actually a photo tutorial for the exploding insert element and you will find the tutorial at The Pixie Cottage blog by clicking HERE - or see the bottom of this post.

I'm entering this into the following challenges.

Secret Crafter - Weddings/Anniversaries

One Stitch At A Time - Celebrations

Twisted Thursdays - Going To The Chapel with a something old twist (and old corner die that I hardly ever use now)

Paperplay Challenge - Something Old (the corner die)

My Time to Craft - Extra Special

I used one of my favourite Pixie Cottage wedding stamps on this card - May I Have This Dance

I love to glitter this one up - this time with glamour dust. The ink I used was Tim Holtz Spun Sugar.

The papers I used are Bo-Bunny. The corners are Sizzix Architectural Accents (I'd forgotten that I had these!). I've used Nestabilities Circles and Scallop Circles (large).

I hope you like this and please let me know if you try the tutorial for the insert out because I'd love to pop over to your blogs to see what you made.

Full tutorial.
Exploding Insert Card Tutorial.
By Sharon Traynor.

Materials:
A 6 inch (or 15 cm) Square Card Blank.
Double Sided paper measuring 11 ½ inches square (or 29 cm x 29cm).
Bone paper folder.
Items to decorate with.

Step 1. Fold opposite corners together, open the paper and fold the other opposite corners together.

The result looks like this.

Step 2. Turn the paper over and then fold it in half

The result looks like this

Step 3. Make sure the right side of the paper is facing upwards (the side you want to show when you open the card). Take one corner and hold it on the middle crease but do not crease anything

Fold the top part back on itself (the crease was already made in step 1)

Next, bring the bottom corner up as shown by the arrow in the picture below

Crease the small vertical part. (Top Right in the picture)

Step 4. Repeat the whole of step 3 on all the other corners and your paper ends up looking like this when opened.

Step 5. Fold the corners and the centre crease inwards

And flatten

The paper now looks like this

Step 6. Stick the inner into a card blank

Step 7. Now you can decorate the front and inside. And here is the finished card:

Wags n Whiskers Tiny Dancer

Sunglasses at the ready everyone! Honestly, give me a picture for inspiration and what do I do? Pick the loudest and brightest colours in it, that's what! I just can't help myself. Today is Colour Create Challenge day and the challenge theme picked by our fab Karen is a picture of Johnny Depp as the mad hatter. Well, I tell you...it took me nearly 2 weeks to start my card because I got stuck drooling over the picture all the time :)
I'm going to enter this into the following challenges:
One Stitch At A Time - Celebrations (this can be used to celebrate passing a ballet exam)
PollyCraft - Let's have a sing song - couldn't resist a second entry of 'Tiny Dancer' (the image name), Que Sera Sera (the paper name) or 'Dream' (from the sentiment)

Our new designers have joined us for this challenge and they have made some beautiful projects. I feel so blessed to be working with all the fab people on the Colour Create Design team - they are all such an inspiration.

Items used:
Wag n whiskers 'Tiny Dancer' stamp
K&Co Que Sera Sera Firecracker paper
Green flowers from the Cuttlebug Curls and Swirls die set
Orange embossed flower - Prima 'Obsessions'
Distress inks: Peeled Paint, Dried Marigold and Spiced Marmalade

Everything else from my stash.

It doesn't show too well in the picture, but I've used glossy accents on the roses that the bunny is holding at irl it really makes them 'pop'. The image I used is Bunny with Roses by Di Carubia
I was amazed at the fantastic cards that the rest of the DT made for this challenge. They are brilliant so please pop over to have a look.

Good Morning. I do hope everyone is having a good weekend and that the weather is being kind to you, wherever you are.
My card today uses an image from digisparkle. In the download you get 3 individual fairies, a sentiment and the image that I used. It's such a cute image. This card also uses the fantastic sketch that Chrissie has given us for the challenge this week at the One Stop Craft Challenge.

Barbecued Dad

Oh My! Has it really been nearly a week since I posted to this blog? I'm shocked to see that. I really must get some more projects finished so that I can post a few more items.

Anyway, it's time for the Pixie Cottage challenge and this week we have the wonderful Donalda joining us as guest designer. She's created a fab sketch for the challenge and the theme this week is 'Father's Day'.

I've used a new Pixie Cottage digital image to make this father's day card. Isn't it a fab image? I think he's called 'Grillman' but that may change when the image appears in the shop. I thought the fire in the barbecue was crying out to be glittered up. I've used promarkers to colour this image in.

The background is brayered using a Big and Juicy inkpad - soothing sunset.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

The Shabby Tea Room - Just For Dad

Cards For Men - Father's Day

Double Dutch - Dad's Treat

Simple Doodles - Just 4 You Dad

One Stitch At A Time - Boys To Men

Creative Craft Challenge - For The Man In Your Life

Pile It On - Quirky (I think he's quirky)

Please have a look at the wonderful cards that the talented DT have made this week.

Thanks for looking.

So Romantic

What a romantic set this is. It was my turn to pick the colours at the Colour Create Challenge today and I went for a really soft combination of Baby Pink and Pastel Blue with the optional extra of something soft. You should see the pretty items made by the rest of the talented DT too.

We have also announced the new members of the Colour Create design team today. They are
We're so delighted and honoured that they accepted the offer to join us.

I'm entering my set into the following challenges:

By the Cute and Girly - Something Old (feathers) Something New (image) Something borrowed (the lace) Something Blue (ink). Okay, so the something borrowed isn't technically borrowed because it'll stay on these items now.

One Stitch At A Time - use something new (the image)

I've used one of the new Pixie Cottage stamps by ArTish on the easel card called May I Have This Dance. I made my own background by stamping that good old Love Fluff stamp and heat embossing it with clear powder. Then I smudged Spun Sugar and Stormy Sky randomly on the card. Simple to do and a pretty result. Most of the flowers are by Prima.

This gift box started out as plain chipboard. I covered it with white acrylic paint and when that was dry I went over it with Spun Sugar distress ink.
Today Michelle's Scrapbooking is sponsoring the challenge.
I hope that you'll find time to join in with us.

Metal with a flower

Yet another new image for you today. This one is a new stamp that has been designed by ArTish for the Pixie Cottage and this is my DT card for today's Pixie Cottage Challenge. You can buy the stamp here.

As usual there is a sketch and/or a theme to follow. Of course my card uses both the sketch (I rotated it by 90 degrees) and today's theme which is: Metal. I made my own pin with some metal beads on it and also added a couple of metal corners on the image.

I'm entering this card into the following challenges:

Fun 2 Stamp Challenge - Metal accessories

Magical Crafts - Metal Madness

I think I went a bit overboard on the pearls but I like the look this gives and it makes a change from doodling, or inking/distressing or glittering the edges.

I hope you'll pop over to the challenge blog to see all the gorgeous new stamps that the DT are using, they really are a talented bunch! I also hope that you'll find time to join in the challenge this week.
